Africa

a) We should try to help them, but not as a crutch they need 24/7. If we help too much they will not know how to fend for themselves like the natives when the Europeans took over.

b) To know of their circumstances would help me to know how much change has come from other countries.

Dear Journal,

Today the government officially banned Christmas as a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is now to only celebrate the arrival of Santa Claus on, now xmas, eve. This affects me greatly because I believe in the birth of Christ and now I am not allowed to celebrate with others who also believe. We were told that if we celebrated the birth of Christ we would be fined for $5000! It is now very difficult because I can not celebrate in what I believe to have been a most amazing miracle. I believe what the government did was very cruel to ban a belief of so many. They can't tell people what to believe in, That is Evil indead!

Potlatch

what is potlatch and why did the West Coast people practise it? What was the reaction of European newcomers to it? Why did they react this way? Many people feel that elements of the potlatch philosophy are in our current society. What is your opinion about this?
Potlatch is a feast or party held by the Natives of the North West coast to impress others and show their importance. The reaction of the European newcomers, they did not like the potlatch because it was much different from their society and they believed it wasn't civilized. I believe they are because we have lots of celebrations for what we believe is important. We have celebrate birthdays, weddings, baptisms (in the L.D.S. church), Christmas, Easter, Anniversarys, and so on.

Down Side of Globalization

A down side of globalization is all the production that goes into making all of these inter-cultural products. It is making more and more waste that goes into the atmosphere. It is destroying our ozone and creating global warming. It is causing lots of pollution which creates illnesses. I just wish we could produce products without so much waste coming from it.
